In addition to our unique driftwood furniture and lamps, Driftwood Décor also has a full line of handmade and custom designed jewelry boxes. Although we use many different kinds of wood, our most popular boxes are made from Camphor Laurel found throughout Central Florida.

The Camphor tree was originally native to Asia, but has been transplanted to Florida and other southern states. It is very common in the Orlando area where Driftwood Décor is located. Because it branches early and often, it makes a great “climbing” tree for children. Oil distilled from chips of the bark and stem is used medicinally for its antiseptic and anesthetic qualities. Hence, you may recognize the slight fragrance of cough drops and vapor rub!

Camphor wood is air dried for at least a year before cutting for use. Our boxes are made by using a very thin blade of a band saw, cutting along a natural line forming the drawers. They are all finished with a satin lacquer so that all they need is an occasional dusting. Camphor has beautiful brown and red colors as well as the unique fragrance. The boxes all have a variety of drawers finished with crushed velvet inside and felt base.

Prices vary from $55 - $200 depending upon number of drawers, individual character and size. Most have 2-6 drawers, but we do have some with many more!
